Overview:

Many of the important decisions that affect our water, our land and our lives are made by elected officials

We don't always think of Conservation and politics together, but the fact is many of the important decisions that affect our water, our land and our lives are made by elected officials.

The Conservation Minnesota Voter Fund endorses and works to elect candidates who are true conservation leaders.  Our goal is to elect leaders of all parties who understand the importance of natural resources to our health, our economy, and our lives.

Once every two years we have a chance to make our greatest possible impact on conservation. The work of our political fund is truly changing the political landscape by electing conservation champions. Why is our work so important and effective?:

95% of Funding
The vast majority of funding for conservation comes from government. That is why almost every conservation organization works to affect public policy. More pro-conservation legislators means more votes to pass common sense policy.

Bipartisan Power
Our non-partisan stance gives us credibility to work with leaders of all parties. Our endorsements are almost evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. In 2006, we endorsed 11 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

Success
Since 2000 we have helped 24 endorsed candidates win office. That is 24 legislators who are fighting for conservation legislation... and it's paying off. 2006 was the best year for conservation legislation in a decade and the League played a part in every success.

Effective Investment
We only target races where your investment can make a difference. Because we are strictly nonpartisan, your dollar goes further. Our research and experience show that political parties and biased groups must spend several times as much as the Voter Fund to match our impact.

Featured Candidate Selection
Our bipartisan committee reviews questionnaires from candidates in targeted areas and then interviews those who are considered potential endorsees. Our strategy focuses on re-electing leaders who have a clear record of support, finding new champions in open seats, and replacing ineffective incumbents with conservation champions. Our endorsements and resources are targeted on races where our efforts can have the greatest effect on electoral or policy outcomes.
